Talk:993 - Targa Roof Operation Outline
From pcarworkshop
Thanks for an amazing article!
The roof (and the entire car for that matter) of my '96 targa has been relatively reliable, with two minor issues:
1. Loose leather trim on one track trim cover panel. Fixed with "extended temperature" epoxy.
2. Broken spring mount on the end of one track, fixed with a cable tie.
Recently another bit of leather came loose and blocked one track, forcing what I now think may have been a cable slip. The roof closes almost all the way, perhaps 1 or 2 mm short. This leads to wind noise at the deflector / roof interface at speeds over 80 MPH (of course I have only read about this, I have never driven this car over 80 MPH :)).
From your article it sounds like an adjustment is possible, though perhaps tricky. Any guesstimates of how many motor revolutions would translate into 1 mm of roof movement?
Thanks much!
Tim
Hello Andrew I need some 993 Targa advice please...
Hello Andrew, I have a 96 993 Targa...unfortunately my drive cables are shot. I have seen your posts regarding Targa roof repair. I am a decent home mechanic, with a good amount of experience so I am considering removing the roof and trying to repair it myself. I was hoping that if it's not too much trouble, I could have a discussion with you, or perhaps you could email me any info or directions on the procedure and specialty tools involved. If I do decide not to take on the job myself, do you know of any good shops in the LA area who could do the job? Many thanks in advance. Mr. DeSalvo. 646-221-7148 pishoc@mac.com
