993 - 3 Spoke Steering Wheel
From pcarworkshop
Here is the manual insert for taking the steering wheel off. Notice the torque settings in the diagram for the installation.
Step 1: Disable the power to the airbag at the battery. Disconnect the neg terminal on your battery and let it sit for at least 15 minutes if you are brave, 30 minutes if you are normal, and about an hour if you are paranoid (just to be sure).
Also, make sure you have your radio code handy before you disconnect your battery too. You'll have to enter it when you are done.
Step 2: Remove old 993 wheel and horn connections. NOTE: THE SCREWS IN THE 993 Four spoke steering wheel are #27 Torx and those in the 996 are #30 torx
I found that my Soft Socket for wheel lug nuts was the correct 24mm size (after I pulled the nylon insert) for the steering wheel nut !
The Airbag electrical connection pulls straight out from the back of the bag. Step 3: Install new 996 wheel and align hub.
What you will need to do the exchange:
- TORX #27 for the old 4 spoke 993 wheel airbag - 2 bolts from behind.
- TORX #30 for the new 3 spoke 996 wheel airbag - 2 bolts from behind.
- 24mm socket and extension for the rachet to remove the wheel from the hub.
